Haemorrhoids (piles) are swollen blood vessels in the anal canal. Common symptoms are painless bleeding during a bowel movement, itching, a lump at the anus and discomfort.
Many patients improve with changes in diet, more fluids and medicine. When symptoms continue, a procedure or surgery may be advised after an examination. Bleeding should always be checked, because it can have other causes.
Dr. Sony co-authored a study on complications of stapled haemorrhoidectomy for primary haemorrhoids at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (2017).
